    Annotated Bibliographies

The required and recommended reading lists can be found in the Current MFAC Students section of this site.

All students have a required reading list (120 books) they must complete by the end of their third semester. You must complete a brief annotated bibliography for all of the books by the end of your third semester.

The intent of the required book list is to ensure that students in the MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults program learn how to read as writers, and that they complete the program with a working knowledge of the field of children’s and young adult literature.  Students should select 40 books to read before by the end of their first semester, another 40 to be read by the end of their second semester and the final 40 by the end of their third semester.  Students may select books in any order they wish. They will turn their bibliographies over to the faculty advisor to whom they are working with each semester.

These annotated bibliographies, while brief, should address in concrete terms one or more pertinent issues of craft you learned from the book and can apply to your own work.  To get an idea of what we're looking for, go a few exemplary entries are listed on the  Current MFAC Students page.
