Statement of Purpose

The purpose of Hamline International Piano Institute (HIPI) is to provide world-class advanced piano performance studies in a leading liberal arts university.

Small numbers of highly gifted piano students from around the world are studying under expert resident and guest faculty at Hamline University in individualized programs ranging from non-credit affiliate to post-baccalaureate certificate Artist Diploma.HIPI offers an array of collaborative and performance opportunities in cooperation with The Schubert Club, Minnesota Orchestra, The Saint Paul Chamber OrchestraMinnesota International Piano-e-Competition, and Minnesota Public Radio.

HIPI is equipped with fine pianos: Yamahas and New York and Hamburg Steinways are available for practice and performance. These include Yamaha CFIII Pro Concert Grands used in the Minnesota International Piano-e-Competition.

Masterclasses are offered by major international artists and are free and open to the public. Hamline has hosted pianists such as Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Yefim Bronfman, Vadim Monastrysky, Jerome Rose, Jeffrey Siegel, and, Vladimir Tropp.

All courses of study combine pianism with a variety of other intellectual disciplines. Tracks of study depend on student experience:
