    History Major Learning Outcomes

    The Department of History has six learning outcomes for its majors. Students who complete the major will be able to: 

    • Identify and criticize historical arguments; try to construct historical arguments
    • Generate coherent, integrated narratives of events in two world regions from the sixteen to the twentieth centuries
    • Analyze historical arguments
    • Examine specific historical episodes in their complexity and contingency
    • Present historical analysis in a variety of written and oral forms for a variety of audiences
    • Compile a comprehensive, correctly formatted bibliography on an historical topic
