Howard Hughes Medical Institute Grant Hamline University is excited to be using funding from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute to support Hamline students and local community college students through individual and classroom based research experiences. Working with Century College and North Hennepin Community College, we are or will be offering laboratory-based research experiences in antibiotic resistance, chytrid fungus in frogs, and the chemistry of art. These experiences will transform how students at all three institutions learn about doing science and allow those students to contribute to novel research. Outside of the classroom we are offering students from each of these schools a chance to conduct independent research for ten weeks in the summers. These paid positions help prepare students for careers in fields such as research and medicine. Student researchers have opportunities to present their work and travel to meetings as part of this experience.
