English and Writing Minors
The English department offers students 4 different minors: a standard English minor, a creative writing minor, a professional writing minor, and a linguistics minor.
English minor
One survey course:
Two gateway courses to be taken in sequence:

Creative writing minor
One survey course:
Two gateway courses to be taken in sequence:
Three 3000-level creative writing courses
Required:

Professional writing minor
One survey course:
Two gateway courses to be taken in sequence:
Three 3000-level professional writing courses
Note: these courses include ENG 3320, ENG 3330, ENG 3340, ENG 3370, and ENG 3390. ENG 3330, 3370, and 3390 may be taken more than once with different topics. For English majors, these courses are in addition to those counted in the major program.
Linguistics minor
Four courses offered at Hamline:
- ANTH 3490 - Language, Culture, and Society (or other ACTC linguistics course at the intermediate level)
- ENG 3190 - Introduction to Linguistics
- MODL 1010 - The Language Phenomenon
- MODL 1020 - Language and Society
One ACTC course:
One additional ACTC linguistics course at the intermediate level or above.
