The curriculum at Hamline University encourages students to "own" their education, to develop over the course of their studies an awareness of – and control over – the production of scholarship. By the time students graduate, they will not merely have studied in the area of their major – for instance Biology, English, Psychology, or Theatre – but they will become practicing professionals in their field – as Biologists, Literary Critics, Clinical Psychologists, or Actors. The academic focus of the Collaborative Research Program is integration into the practices of student’s respective, sometimes cross-disciplinary and often intersecting, fields of study.
Student research can take a variety of forms, ranging from advanced projects assigned by faculty in regularly taught courses, independent studies and creative projects, honors theses, study abroad, and student-faculty collaborative research. The Collaborative Research program funds many opportunities for conducting and disseminating student research, including underwriting research costs, or supporting attendance at relevant workshops or seminars.
