    West Egg Literati

We are writers and readers associated with the Graduate School of Liberal Studies. Membership is open to any graduate student in the MALS and MFA programs at the university. West Egg Literati is responsible for creating and fostering community within the GLS program as well as with the writing world at large.

With the start of each Fall term, West Egg Literati hosts a welcoming event for all incoming MALS & MFA students as part of the orientation evening events. West Egg promotes community for Graduate Liberal Studies students, thereby strengthening the Graduate Liberal Studies program. Contact via email at: westegg@hamlineuniversity.edu for more information.

    rock, paper, scissors

West Egg Literati is also the proud home of the literary magazine, rock, paper, scissors.
The magazine is devoted to publishing work that contributes to the literary and social discussion, and that is written by current graduate students in MFA and Liberal Arts programs. It is published annually by GLS students and contains poetry, essays, interviews, creative nonfiction, and fiction.

  • On Writing

"I transferred to Hamline after having an epiphany that I just want to write. That's what makes me happy. The small class sizes at Hamline are a big draw -- you feel comfortable sharing your work and everyone is like-minded. They all want to express themselves and work hard at writing."
