This book has lots of good information about recent history. However, it helps when reading this book to have a background in the earlier history.

This is the homepage for a webring of 64 sites. Many of them are personal and don’t have much useful information, but some are quite helpful. This site also serves as a host for discussion groups.

This was an article that was written for the Chicago Tribune. It had statements from children about their experiences in the war.

Castles, Stephen and Mark J. Miller. The Age of Migration: International Population Movements in the Modern World. New York: Guilford Press, 1998.

This book offers primarily theoretical discussions of migration. It is helpful in that it proposes a model all migrants adhere to with their movements.

This site refers to a scholarly paper. It has lots of good, recent information, plus places current events in a historical background.

Again, this book is very good at detailing recent atrocities in Kosovo, but doesn’t explain much of the earlier history.

Glick Schiller, Nina, et al. Towards A Transnational Perspective on Migration. Baltimore: John Hopkins University Press, 1998.

This is from the introduction of a book. I based the way I interpreted the movements of the Albanians on the way suggested here.

I conducted an interview with an 18-year-old Albanian currently studying in the United States. He is a student of my father’s. He was knowledgeable and impassioned when speaking about Albania.

There is only basic information in the article, but it helps to give one an idea of how the Kosovars stay in touch.

This article, written for the publication AIM, was interesting in that it said that women should learn to handle the details of post-war life before they should start to work on healing the emotional wound of war.

This site contains lots of good information. There are numerous helpful tables that illustrate the breakdown of groups wishing to migrate from Albania.

Kain Hart, Laurie. "Culture, Civilization, and Demarcation at the Northwest Borders of Greece." American Ethnologist. 26(1999): 196-212.

This article spoke extensively about how the historical feelings between Greece and Albania affect the current issue of migration between the two countries.

This was another article for mass media sent out on the Listserv. It had interesting quotes from women and provided a lot of good information.

This article is a case study of one Kosovar woman who is independent and working to make a difference. For this reason, she is on trial for terrorism.

This site is almost exclusively dedicated to the developments of the war and the Serbian campaign against the Albanians. It contains many helpful articles in the archives, plus will hook you up to mailing and discussion lists.

Logoreci, Anton. The Albanians: Europe’s Forgotten Survivors. Bolder, Colorado: Westview Press, 1977.

This book is very old, and can’t be applied well to today, since when it was written, Albania was still a communist state. However, the very early history it tells is easy to understand.

Malcolm, Noel. Kosovo: A Short History. New York: New York University Press, 1998.

This book contains excellent historical information. The movements of the people in the region of Kosovo are detailed.

Paparizo, Angela. "Albanian Youth: The Great Escape." Online Posting. 24 November 1999. Albanews Listserv. http://listserv.ascu.buffalo.edu/archives/albanews.html.

Background information about the people who want to migrate from Albania is given here. There is also a detailed section on the intellectuals who are leaving Albania.

Pettifer, James and Hugh Poulton. The Southern Balkans. London: Minority Rights Group, 1994.

Although this is a small book, it contains three very good case studies on different ethnic populations in the Balkans.

Seremetakis, C. Nadia. "In Search of the Barbarians: Borders in Pain." American Anthropologist. 98(1996): 489-491.

This article is short, and mostly talks about how diseases move across the borders along with the migrants.

Strauss, Julius. "Housewives Join First All-woman Mine-Clearing Team in Kosovo." Online Posting. 17 November 1999.

This article was fun to read since it provided such a different view of the role of women in war.

Triadafilopulos, Triadafilos. "A Reluctant Gesture: The Establishment of Canadian-Albanian Diplomatic Relations." East European Quarterly. 31(1997) 399-314.

Although this article offered some good information, it was too long and dealt more with the interplay between governmental negotiations rather than the movements of people.

Van Hear, Nicholas. New Diasporas: The Mass Exodus, Dispersal, and Regrouping of Migrant Communities. Seattle: University of Washington Press, 1998.

This current book offers a lot of good information about the movements of people. It focused a lot Greece and gave facts in a detailed and easy to understand way.

Vickers, Miranda. Between Serb and Albanian: A History of Kosovo. New York: Columbia University Press, 1998.

This book provides a solid historical background. It specifically focuses on the disputes between the people who inhabit Kosovo.
