The Cherry Orchard |

Chekhov's masterpiece finds the Cherry Orchard, the tranquil home of the beautiful Madam Renevskaya, nearing its day of auction to pay its owner's debts. Amidst a tumult of conflicting desires, love blossoms and fails, opportunities are grasped and bungled, and the cherry blossoms drift from the trees.

Join Artistic Director Kaori Kenmotsu and the Hamline Dance Ensemble for a night of new works of innovative choreography. Energized by a fusion of classical, modern and contemporary forms, Kenmotsu and her company members' approach to dance makes for an exciting evening of entertainment. Set against the backdrop of the Great Depression, Naomi Wallace's The Trestle at Pope Lick Creek illustrates the relationship between two teenagers. With lyrical elegance, this seemingly candid look at youth evolves into a romantic and tragic mystery. 2008 Hamline Graduate and Anne Simley Scholarship recipient Kieran Adcock will direct this play.

Our final mainstage play of the season is Aunt Dan and Lemon written by the Obie Award winning Wallace Shawn. Moving forward in time to Reagan-era America, this production examines the nature of compassion, social responsibility and violence.

Spring will finish with a flourish as the annual eclectic mix of original and experimental work of the Theatre & Film Festival as well as the second annual production of the Hamline Dance Ensemble. These May offerings feature student and faculty work and mark our year-long season from the first through the last weekends of the academic year.
