English Minor Requirements

 

Standard English Minor:
Six courses in the department, including:

  1. One survey course: ENG 1210: British Literature to 1789; ENG 1220: British Literature after 1789; ENG 1230: American Literature to 1860; ENG 1240: American Literature after 1860; ENG 1250: World Literatures; or ENG 1270: African-American Literature.
  2. Two “gateway” courses to be taken in sequence:
    ENG 3010: Literary Criticism
    ENG 3020: Literary Theory
  3. Three 3000-level courses above 3020

Creative Writing Minor in English:
Six courses in the department, including:

  1. One survey course: ENG 1210: British Literature to 1789; ENG 1220: British Literature after 1789; ENG 1230: American Literature to 1860; ENG 1240: American Literature after 1860; ENG 1250: World Literatures; or ENG 1270: African-American Literature.
  2. Two “gateway” courses to be taken in sequence:
    ENG 3010: Literary Criticism
    ENG 3020: Literary Theory
  3. Three 3000-level creative writing courses. (For English majors, these courses are in addition to those counted in the major program.)

Professional Writing Minor in English:
Six courses in the department, including:

  1. One survey course: ENG 1210: British Literature to 1789; ENG 1220: British Literature after 1789; ENG 1230: American Literature to 1860; ENG 1240: American Literature after 1860; ENG 1250: World Literatures; or ENG 1270: African-American Literature.

Linguistics Minor Requirements:

  1. MODL 1010: Language Phenomenon

  3. ENG 3190: Introduction to Linguistics
  4. ANTH 3490: Language and Culture or other ACTC linguistics course at the intermediate level
  5. One additional ACTC linguistics course at the intermediate level or above
