Introduce students to the foundations of textual reading, analysis, literary language, and historical and cultural contexts

Research Methodology
Critically read and interpret texts. Use research tools such as the MLA bibliography and databases. Practice effective writing of texts using quotations, attribution of sources, and documentation in the MLA style.

Oral Presentations
Lead and participate in large and small discussion groups; informal presentations; visual representations of texts.
Independent Work
Emphasize responsibility for self-motivated work; develop skills for timely completion of tasks.
Peer Groups
Discussion of course texts and the analysis of student written texts, revising and editing drafts moving from instructor guided to student directed experience.
Close Reading
Introduce and model readings of course and student written texts.

Editing and Revising
Focus on the process of prewriting and revising with an emphasis on rewriting by incorporating peer evaluation and feedback.

Theoretical Practice
Self-awareness of reading and writing practices.
