Conflict Studies

Certificate Program

The study of conflict is a study of ourselves and our relation to others at interpersonal, group, and societal levels. The conflict studies minor and certificate program offer an interdisciplinary perspective on the theory and practice of conflict analysis and response at these various levels and in various settings. The program is designed to complement a range of academic majors. Students will be challenged to understand the context, nature, and dynamics of conflict; to address the natural tensions between concerns for justice and concerns for peace; and to develop an appreciation for the challenges of constructive conflict resolution.

Whether you teach in the classroom or have significant administrative responsibilities, the
Certificate in Conflict Studies offers you the flexibility to assemble the right mix of courses for your professional and personal development.

Course offerings can help you:

*More deeply understand the nature of conflict in an increasingly diverse world;
*Refine your negotiation skills;
*More appropriately intervene in conflicts that arise in various settings.

The program offers a blend of theory and practice with significant time devoted to application.  You will study with graduate students from Hamline University’s programs in education, public administration, nonprofit management, general management, and law, all of whom enrich the diversity of perspectives in the learning environment.

Conflict Studies courses provide a range of theory and skill development options to fit your personal and professional goals.
