Challenge Questions for Week 4
Try these questions for Week 4 of International Frog Month. Good luck and remember to tell us where you are from when you send in an answer!

1. Deformed frogs have been found in Minnesota and in other places. Why do you think that deformed frogs are being found?
   
   A. 1) Little parasites build cysts in tadpoles' body parts and that can cause missing limbs or extra limbs.
   2) Farmers are spraying stuff on vegetables and frogs eat the bugs that the farmers are spraying.
   3) There's a little tiny break in the earth's atmosphere and too much sun gets on the frogs' skin.

2. Why are frogs used as characters so much in books and on television?
   
   A. They are fascinating because they jump a lot and they look good in green on television. They can do actions that humans have never seen before and kids enjoy seeing things like animals on Sesame Street. 3. Are there frogs where you live? Ask your parents/teachers if they remember frogs where they grew up. Do they remember more frogs now or when they were younger? Why?
   
   A. Yes, there are frogs here - we live next to Glacier National Park. Yes, our teacher grew up in the mountains in Colorado and there were lots of frogs there. She used to go visit frog ponds at night with her family to collect tadpoles and listen to bullfrogs sing. There were about the same amount of frogs here until last summer when she didn't see any frog hatches (she lives next to a lake and there are usually big frog hatches there. Some summers, they are so thick that you step on baby frogs because they are everywhere.)

   A. Yes, we should because the stuff that is making the frogs decline might make the human population decline, too.
   
2. In recent years, some medicinal uses for frogs have been discovered. Research one of these and tell us what you find. Also answer this question: should we only maintain the frog populations that can be medically useful? Defend your position.
   
   
3. Why are frogs found in some types of habitats and not in others? What are these areas and are they adequately protected?
