Public Relations Strategist Graduate Assistant Download a PDF version of the graduate assistantship description > Purpose of the Graduate Assistant The Social Media Graduate Assistant will be a member of a dynamic, professional team dedicated to increasing the visibility and enhancing the reputation of Hamline University through thoughtful marketing, public and media relations, and communications activities. This person to fill this grad assistantship will help the Public Relations team enhance the reputation of the university and raise visibility, driving enrollment in key graduate, law, and undergraduate programs. This will be achieved by helping to create and implement the university’s strategic social media, external communications, and public relations activities. Graduate Assistant Responsibilities VIDEO & WEB STORY CONTENT PRODUCTION Enterprise and draft feature web stories about Hamline programs, people, and campus life to be used on the website and on social media sites Shoot, produce, & edit short video stories to be used on the website, in targeted email pitches to prospective students, and on social media sites Capture compelling still photos about Hamline programs, people, and campus life to be used in presentations and on the website Assist with producing content and short, written news items for internal and external communication vehicles, such as e-newsletters Assist in developing content and providing consistent voice and maintenance on social media sites MEDIA RELATIONS Assist in enterprising media pitch opportunities Assist in maintaining and forging new relationships for Hamline will news media Write and assist with news releases, media advisories Keep database of media contacts up to date Maintain the university’s online experts guide for news media sources Track and analyze success in media and public relations efforts, clips, content Assist with the “hometown release” program Maintain the “In the News” page on Hamline’s website Reporting Relationships This graduate assistant reports to the Director of Strategic Communications. This person also works closely with the Public Relations Specialist, the Social Media Grad Assistant, and the PR Experience Lab interns. The Office of Strategic Communications is part of the Division of Enrollment and Marketing. Mental/Physical Requirements Excellent written and verbal communications skills, demonstrated by at least three years of professional writing experience, including journalistic writing Experience in working with and developing creative content and a thorough understanding of how to utilize social media sites such as Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, and others, for marketing purposes, demonstrated by at least two years of online marketing or professional social media management experience Verifiable track record of social media campaign development & performance analysis Experience in social media monitoring tools, versed on industry trends and innovations Well-versed in social media vocabulary, tools, processes, analytics, emerging trends and best practices Ability to work as part of a communications team in a dynamic environment Demonstrated attention to detail Ability to manage simultaneous projects Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work with a diverse clientele Must possess creativity and demonstrate self immersion in social media Ability to sit for long periods of time at the computer; graduate assistantship requires heavy concentration Ability to lift and carry more than 25 pounds on a daily basis (camera, tripod, etc.) Proficient in shooting video on high-tech camcorder Technical Skills Preferred Proficient on FinalCutPro Expertise with sourcing and managing content development and publishing Educational Requirements Must be currently enrolled student entering The Hamline MBA program in the School of Business.
