    Leadership Communication Skills NEW!
Communication is the basis for everything that leaders do in their role. This program is designed with three primary components: 1) teach a process for professional development so they can improve their skills; 2) build communication abilities in areas like influencing, conflict management and relationship building, and; 3) practice these skills and receive coaching from peers and instructors.

Minnesota Public Works Association Leadership Academy
The Hamline School of Business also awards a public administration certificate through the Minnesota Public Works Association Leadership Academy. If you work in the field of public works, the MPWA Leadership Academy program increases your effectiveness as a public works manager and prepares you to be an industry leader.

Performance Evaluation & Measurement - with Seminar Option NEW!
Participants gain knowledge and tools for performing basic internal and collaborative performance measurement and evaluation activities in the context of planning and research in public organizations. Regardless of where organizations are along a continuum of evidence-based practice or evaluation maturity, students will leave equipped with tools and resources that will help them be catalysts in practical ways. The curriculum is structured specifically for individuals who would like to improve their existing skills, for staff for whom performance measurement and evaluation is a newly acquired duty, or for public agency leaders who are responsible for new evidence-based practice initiatives, evaluation, and measurement, and need an understanding of the processes and resources needed to make these efforts succeed. This includes internal data use to improve practice. The curriculum is intended to complement organizational strategic planning, emphasizing the use of information to enhance decision-making. Lack of capacity to perform quality analyses of agency performance is often at the heart of failed initiatives. This curriculum is intended to address this need in an age when public agencies have to measure, report, continuously improve, and evaluate their performance more than ever before. This certificate is distinct from other evaluation certificates offered elsewhere in that it has a strategic focus on evaluation and performance-measurement capacity-building with an emphasis on practice improvement. Any two-day session can be taken as a seminar.

Public Safety, Fire and EMS Administration
The Public Safety certificate at Hamline University is designed for fire, emergency service, and law enforcement personnel who seek advanced study in public safety administration. This certificate is designed to improve interactions with administration, enhance communication with co-workers, develop skills in community service, improve opportunities for promotion, and articulate personal perspectives on community service.

    Public Sector Conflict Resolution NEW!
This new certificate program provides a detailed introduction to the historical roots and legal requirements for addressing conflict in employee relations as well as with conflict that arises in the local government citizen participation model. The certificate will explore the theories and practices associated with the negotiation, mediation and arbitration processes, the laws involving employee and citizen rights, and methods and techniques for conducting meetings and facilitating decision making.
