Finding Articles: Part Two

In this lesson, you will learn about some of the more specialized databases available at Hamline and how to requests items.

Education Full Text is a good place to start, but, most of the time, it will not be enough. You will need to seek a more subject specific database for a particular topic you are working on.
Bush Library subscribes to a variety of subject specific databases.  To see these subject databases click here.  Then click on a specific subject area. Click on Education  to see the education specific databases, which includes databases for esl students. Below every database title will be a little information about its topic coverage, dates covered and if there is any full text within the database.

General Education

Language & Linguistics

You will also find a wide variety of language/linguistics materials also in the ERIC database

Browse Current Journals One of the things to try to do when you are in graduate school is become familiar with the significant journals in your field and/or area of interest. Click on the link to see a list of many of the education- and esl- related journals that Bush Library subscribes to electronically or in print.

If you already have a citation of an article and want to see if Bush Library has a print or electronic subscription to a particular journal use the Journals@Hamline feature under Find Articles on the homepage.  To find out more about using this feature look at the demo.

 Journals @ Bush Library tool

The current & bound print issues of all our journals are shelved on the 2nd floor of Bush Library.

Interlibrary Loan Unfortunately, Bush Library might not have print or electronic access to a particular journal article.  However, we offer a free interlibrary loan service, where you can request materials. There are a couple ways to request items.  If you are a regular visitor to the campus we request that you use our regular Interlibrary Loan service known as Illiad. Illiad is accessible by clicking on the Interlibrary Loan link off of the library's homepage or click here. You can also view a Demo

 ILLiad (Interlibrary Loan)

PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW YOU CAN ACCESS AND USE ILLID. Through Illiad you will be able to request books, articles and a variety of other materials.  Materials, such as books will be delivered to the Bush Library and will be at the Circulation Desk.  Articles may arrive one of to ways, depending on who we get the article from: a copy of the article will be at the circulation desk OR in most cases, the article will be made available in your Illiad account for you to download.  A strong reminder, that we can not choose the way that the item is delivered to us.
