Your Library Card

Your Hamline I.D. will function as your Library card.

Alumni may obtain their library cards from the Bush Library Circulation Desk. After verification of graduation, the card will be activated. Alumni privileges extend to Hamline Bush Library and Hamline Law Library, only. Alumni library cards will be housed at the Bush Library Circulation Desk.

Checkout Policies

    The loan period for books is:
  • Hamline and CLIC Undergraduate, Graduate and Continuing Studies Students: 6 weeks
  • Hamline and CLIC Faculty and Staff: 1 semester
  • Hamline Alumni (CLA and Graduate): 6 weeks (Bush Library and Hamline Law Library books only)
  • Hancock Hamline Collaborative Magnet School Faculty: 6 weeks (Bush Library and Hamline Law Library books only)
  • NACEL Students and Staff: 6 weeks (Bush Library books only)
  • UTS (United Theological Seminary students enrolled in a Hamline course): 6 weeks (Bush Library books only)
  • Loan policies for special materials:
  • Periodicals, Reference Books, and some Curriculum Lab materials must be used in the Library only.
  • Reserve materials:  2 hours, in-Library use.
  • Videos/DVD's:  Students and staff may check out Hamline University videos and DVD’s for 4 hours and they must be viewed in the library (viewing stations are available in the basement of the Library). If a student needs to request a video from another CLIC library, faculty permission must be given. A green request form is available at the Circulation Desk, and it must be signed by a faculty member. The completed form can be turned in to the Circ Desk, and the request will be filled. Faculty may check out Hamline University videos and DVD's for 1 week.
  • Music CDs: 4 days. Listening stations are available in Bush Library.
  • CD-ROMs:  4 hours, in-Library use only. Viewing stations are available in the basement of Bush Library.
  • HUSC DVD collection: These DVD's were purchased with HUSC (Hamline Undergraduate Student Congress) funds, so can be checked out by CLA students only (limit 2).  There are no renewals on these DVD's.



    Renewing library materials:

  • CLICnet books may be renewed twice, 4 weeks for each renewal.
  • CLICnet books may be renewed in person, by phone, or through CLICnet.
  • For books outside of the catalog you will need to contact our Interlibrary Loan office directly at 651.523.2392
  • Phone: Call 651-523-2373 and choose option #3.
  • CLICnet: Choose My Account from the top menu, log in, then click on the button indicating the number of items you have checked out. Follow the instructions.


    Overdue materials:
  • As a courtesy to others in the Hamline community, please return or renew all materials promptly! 
    You will recieve courtesy notices through your Hamline Netmail account only!
  • You will be charged for overdue materials.
  • Your library record will be blocked if you have an overdue item & you will not be able to check out more materials.
  • You will be billed $65 for each item that is 3 or more weeks late. At that time, the item's status is changed to: Lost.  When you return the item, you may be credited $50; however, the $15 processing fee is non-refundable.

    Faculty: Reserve and Video Forms
  • Reserves Form Print off, complete, and bring this form with the materials you would like to place on reserve.
    Contact Jon Neilson, (651-523-2976) if you have any questions about reserves.
  • Video Request Form Complete and submit this form to schedule a Hamline- or CLIC-owned video or to request a rental from outside the CLIC consortium. Please schedule these as far in advance as possible. Be sure to include the show date on your request. You may pick the video up from the Circulation Desk on the day you plan to show it. It is usually possible to arrange a brief period to preview the film.
