The Hamline University Libraries Proxy Server |
|
The proxy server (EZProxy) is used to connect to databases to which the Hamline Libraries pay subscription fees. These resources are licensed for use by the Hamline community only. Because of this restriction, we need to verify that anyone accessing these databases is a current member of the Hamline community. Click here to see what the Proxy Server Login looks like. How does it work? When you use a database from a computer on campus, the database you are going to recognizes the IP address (the "address" of your computer) as a Hamline address and allows you to use the database without further authentication. When you are off-campus and use the off-campus links provided by your library, you are sent to the Hamline proxy server first. When you fill out the form, the information you enter is validated against Hamline's administrative database. If your registration is current, you are connected to the database you chose because the proxy server makes it look like you're coming from a Hamline computer. Our proxy server makes two things possible:
The easiest way for everyone--students, faculty, and staff-- to login is to use your CLIC Library Barcode. This is the top number on the back of your Hamline ID. If you do not yet have an ID, stop by the Office of Safety and Security to have one made; it will take just a couple of minutes. Students need to be currently registered in a degree or certificate program. Faculty and Staff: You may prefer to use your Novell username and password. This is the same password you use to login to the Hamline network from your computer. Students: You may choose to use your Netmail username and password. All degree- and certificate-seeking students, upon registering at Hamline, are assigned a Netmail account for e-mail. Your Netmail Username and Password can be found in your Piperline account, under Personal Information, then View Computer Accounts. (You do not need to use Netmail as your Hamline Preferred E-mail; you may have official Hamline e-mail sent to another e-mail address.)
The databases offered by the Hamline libraries are licensed for use by currently-registered students, faculty, and staff only. For this reason, the information you enter to connect to the database is validated against Hamline's administrative database. Students must be currently registered in a degree or certificate program. Working on a capstone or dissertation but not taking a class? You still need to be registered every semester to use the Hamline Libraries and their services. Contact your department for more information The databases offered by the Hamline libraries are licensed for use by students, faculty, and staff only. Students must be currently registered in a degree- or certificate-seeking program. If you have both student and faculty/staff status, the easiest thing to do is use the CLICnet Barcode form. If you prefer not to login using that method, use the status reflected on your Hamline ID, although both will most likely work. If you are adjunct faculty (i.e. you don't have a computer on campus and, therefore, no Novell username and password), the easiest thing to do will be to get a Hamline ID and login using your CLICnet barcode. Or, you can request a netmail account by sending an e-mail to: admin@hamline.edu Your Netmail Username and Password can be found in your Piperline account, under Personal Information, then View Computer Accounts. (You do not need to use Netmail as your Hamline Preferred E-mail; you may have official Hamline e-mail sent to another e-mail address.) Note to students who use Groupwise for their e-mail: if you choose to use the Netmail proxy login form rather than the CLIC barcode form, you will need to trade in your Groupwise account for a Netmail account. To do this, send an email to admin@hamline.edu indicating your intent to move to Netmail. It will take 2 days for your Netmail account to become active. Once you have a Netmail account your Groupwise account will expire in 30 days. You cannot keep both accounts. Move all addresses and messages from Groupwise to Netmail within this 30 day window or they will be lost. Students
who use an outside provider for their preferred email (AOL, Hotmail,
Yahoo, etc.) were given either a Netmail or Groupwise account at the time
you registered for your first class at Hamline. This account exists, even
if you have never used it. Log-in to Piperline, select the category,
View Hamline Computer Accounts to see which account you have, and
then follow the steps outlined above to log-in. If your username is given in your Piperline account, but your password is not, simply go to Update E-mail Address and Reset your Netmail password. You do not need to know your previous password to do this. It may take 2 working days for the change to become effective. Questions? E-mail admin@hamline.edu This is the top number on the back of your Hamline ID. If you do not yet have an ID, stop by the Office of Safety and Security to have one made; it will take just a couple of minutes. Students need to be currently registered in a degree or certificate program. Troubleshooting:
