Academic Search Premier
EBSCO

The world's largest academic multi-disciplinary database, Academic Search Premier provides full text for more than 4,600 scholarly publications, including full text for more than 3,500 peer-reviewed journals. Coverage spans virtually every area of academic study and offers information dating as far back as 1975. This database is updated on a daily basis. It is a good place to start for multidisciplinary research.

ACS Web Editions and Archive
American Chemical Society

An index to the journals of the American Chemical Society. Use this index to locate articles in any of ACS's 32 titles. Hamline has access to full-text electronic versions of current issues (Web Editions) and past issues (Archive) via a consortial agreement with MINITEX. Use the same search interface to search both older and newer materials. Make sure to select the Archive box to include older materials in your search. Agricola
This index from the National Agricultural Library is available both on and off campus. It covers every major agricultural subject, including agricultural engineering and marketing, animal breeding, entomology, environmental pollution, farm management, foods and feeds, pesticides, rural sociology, veterinary medicine, and water resources. Citations consist of journal articles, book chapters, monographs, conference proceedings, serials, technical reports, and other materials on a range of agricultural topics. Many Agricola records are linked to online full-text documents.
AHSearch FirstSearch
Available both on and off campus with a username and password through the FirstSearch interface. This index is the online equivalent of ISI's Arts & Humanities Citation Index. It provides complete indexing for many of the world's leading arts and humanities journals in a broad range of disciplines. Also includes individually selected, relevant items from thousands of the world's leading science and social sciences journals.

AltPressIndex - FirstSearch

Available both on and off campus with a username and password through the FirstSearch interface. This index covers the humanities and social sciences through international and interdisciplinary coverage of alternative, radical and left periodicals, newspapers and journals. Coverage is from 1991-present. An Archive is also available for searching. It covers years 1969-1990.
Annual Reviews Index
Search for articles published between Jan 1984 - present in the Annual Reviews series. Full-text is available in the following series: Annual Review of Psychology, Annual Review of Ecology and Systematics, Annual Review of Sociology, Annual Review of Anthropology, Annual Review of Physical Chemistry, Annual Review of Nuclear and Particle Physics beginning with 1996-present. Business and Management Practices FirstSearch

This index provides information on business and management issues such as decision making; mplementing new technology; planning for the future; dealing with internal and external issues; and expanding businesses. It covers business methodology with emphasis on case studies and practical applications.
Business Organizations, Agencies, and Publications Directory FirstSearch
Available both on and off campus with a username and password through the FirstSearch interface. This index is a guide to international business information sources. It lists contact name, address, phone, and fax numbers, and a description of the organization's founding, membership, activities, and sources.

Business Source Premier Ebsco
As the world’s largest full text business database, Business Source Premier provides full text for nearly 3,800 scholarly business journals, including full text for more than 1,100 peer-reviewed business publications. Coverage includes virtually all subject areas related to business. This database provides full text (PDF) for more than 350 of the top scholarly journals dating as far back as 1922. This database is updated on a daily basis.

Cambridge Journals Online
Cambridge Journals Online is an index to the journals of Cambridge University Press. Bush Library has print subscriptions and electronic full-text access to twelve journals from this publisher. To search through all their publications: use the search interface box, or select "subscribed journals" from the drop-down menu to see which titles contain full-text. Online holdings are generally 1997-present. Access available off campus through the proxy server.
CIAO
Columbia International Affairs Online (CIAO) is the most comprehensive source for theory and research in international affairs. It publishes a wide range of scholarship from 1991 onward that includes working papers from university research institutes, occasional papers series from NGOs, foundation-funded research projects, proceedings from conferences, books, journals and policy briefs.

CIAO is also widely-recognized source for teaching materials including original case studies written by leading international affairs experts, course packs of background readings for history and political science classes, and special features like the analysis of a bin Laden recruitment tape with video.

CIOS Journal Index System Communication Institute for Online Studies
The Communication Institute for Online Studies' World Wide Web index to communication journals. Searches at the citation level only.
ComAbstracts An index to journals in the field of Communication Studies with results in either full-text or abstract form. This replaces the former ComIndex CD-ROM and is from the Communication Institute of Online Studies. To view full-text, users need to install a free viewer (djvu plugin) to open/read the full-text articles. There is an "install djvu plugin" button next to the "read article (djvu)" button at the bottom of all articles with full-text.
CommSearch An index to the journals of the National Communication Association. The CD contains the full-text of 6 NCA journals 1991-1997, and abstracts or citations of all other journals between 1978-1997. There is nothing newer than 1997 on this CD. To run the CD: insert it into the CD drive. Click on My Computer. Click on the D drive icon. Select the file "setup.exe" Click on the word "next" whenever prompted. Choose yes, to special fonts, and finally click on Finish. Shelved at circulation desk unavailable

Communication & Mass Media Complete
Communication & Mass Media Complete provides the most robust, quality research solution in areas related to communication and mass media. This database originated with the acquisition and subsequent merging of two popular databases in the fields of communication and mass media studies -- CommSearch (formerly produced by the National Communication Association (NCA)), and Mass Media Articles Index (formerly produced by Pennsylvania State University). Communication & Mass Media Complete provides an invaluable resource for students, researchers, and educators interested in any and all aspects of communication and mass media.

Consulta InfoTrac
Consulta index is searchable in either Spanish or English and results are in Spanish. It contains reference materials, journal articles, primary source documents, a graphical chronological timeline for era research, and an extensive image gallery.
ConsumerIndex FirstSearch- Faculty use only
Available both on and off campus with a username and password through the FirstSearch interface to faculty only. Consumer-oriented articles in periodicals are indexed by this database. The index can be searched by general topic area (the home), to more specific product types (automobiles), by periodical (Consumer Reports), or by a specific brand name (Coca­Cola). Intended for consumers, librarians and library users, business professionals, and educational instructors. Some records include web site addresses with links to free full-text.
Contemporary Women's Issues FirstSearch
Available both on and off campus with a username and password through the FirstSearch interface. This index covers sources (periodical and non-periodical) published by more than 100 organizations around the world. It focuses on timely and relevant topics and
meaningful issues for women, including health, human rights, the work place, legal status, and more.
Criminal Justice Abstracts CSA Illumina
This index provides provides comprehensive coverage of the major journals in criminology and related disciplines in the period 1968-present. Topics include crime trends, prevention projects, corrections, juvenile delinquency, police, courts, offenders, victims, and sentencing.

Dissertation Abstracts FirstSearch
Available both on and off campus with a username and password through the FirstSearch interface. This index covers every doctoral dissertation completed in the US at accredited
institutions for the last 150 years. Includes some master's theses and foreign language dissertations.

Ebsco is a database provider which serves up four separate databases for searching. They are:

Academic Search Premier (similar to Expanded Academic from InfoTrac). A scholarly database recommended for most students to use for beginning research on a topic.
Business Source Premier (similar to General Business File from InfoTrac). Appropriate for research in M&E and public administration and management.
Regional Business News Appropriate for research in M&E and public administration and management when looking for newspaper articles.
MasterFILE Premier (similar to General Reference Center Gold from InfoTrac) This database indexes periodicals and general interest magazines, rather than scholarly journals.

EconLit FirstSearch
Available both on and off campus with a username and password through the FirstSearch interface. This index contains citations, with abstracts, to articles from economics journals. In addition, subject indexing and abstracts of books and subject indexing of dissertation titles are included. Corresponding printed sources are: Journal of Economic Literature, Index of Economic Articles, and Cambridge University Press Abstracts of Working Papers in Economics.
Education Full-Text
Education Full Text (formerly Education Abstracts) is a bibliographic database that indexes and abstracts articles of at least one column in length from English-language periodicals and yearbooks published in the United States and elsewhere. English-language books relating to education published in 1995 or later are also indexed. Abstracting coverage begins with January 1994. Abstracts range from 50 to 300 words and describe the content and scope of the source documents. Full-text coverage begins in January 1996.

Ethnic NewsWatch Complete version
This database is a full text general reference database of the 240 newspapers, magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native press dating from 1990 to the present. It is searchable in both English and Spanish, and contains titles in a wide range of current and historical topics in both languages. Access available to off campus users through the proxy server. A tutorial is available for new users of the database.
Expanded Academic ASAP Plus Index InfoTrac
This multidisciplinary index contains articles, many in full-text in the areas of arts and the humanities to social sciences, science and technology. Scholarly journals, magazines, and newspapers are all included.

FactSearch FirstSearch
Available both on and off campus with a username and password through the FirstSearch interface. FactSearch is a specialized database of statistical statements on current social, economic, political, health, and environmental issues and public policy topics, excerpted from more than 1,100 mainstream and alternative serial sources such as the Christian Science Monitor, the Congressional Record, and Australian, British and Canadian Parliamentary Debates.

Over 50 different indexes are available, with a limited number restricted to faculty use only. This service is available both on and off-campus. This index is a full text database comprised of 175 periodicals and other publications that focus on the impact of gender across a broad spectrum of subject areas. GenderWatch supports programs in business, education, literature and the arts, health sciences, history, political science, public policy, sociology and contemporary culture, gender and women's studies and more. Publications include academic and scholarly journals, magazines, newspapers, newsletters, regional publications, books, booklets and pamphlets, conference proceedings, and government, n-g-o and special reports. GenderWatch contains some archival materials from the 1970's, making this an important repository on the historical perspective of the evolution of the women's movement and the changes in gender roles over the last fifteen to twenty years. GEOBASE FirstSearch - faculty use only
Available both on and off campus with a username and password through the FirstSearch interface to faculty only. This index contains citations with abstracts covering worldwide literature in journals on geography, geology, ecology, international development, and their

Online Collections

Hamline University's Law Library offers online legal indexes. Some of these indexes are available to Hamline university students not enrolled in the School of Law. Highwire Library of the Sciences and Medicine This index covers over 342 journals, mostly in the areas of science and medicine, with a few in the social sciences; published by Highwire Press. Also indexed are the proceedings of the National Academy of Science. Some titles may be full-text. Access available to off campus users through the proxy server.

An index of full text Hispanic Magazines. Similar in content to General Reference Center Gold. Search words can be entered in Spanish or English and all results appear in Spanish.

InfoTrac
InfoTrac is the name of the database service provider which serves up 10 databases provided through the Gale Group. Some of the indexes contain full-text articles.

IngentaConnect
Formerly Ingenta.com and IngentaSelect. The newest version of this product is called IngentaConnect. This service indexes journals from many different publishers and in many different subject areas. Access to the full-text of most articles is very limited in date range, and is available to only a select few titles.The Article Linker service found in most of our other indexes is not activated in this product.
ISI Basic Science Index
This citation index covers over 800 of the leading scientific and technical journals. Use is limited to three simultaneous users. There is no full-text linking.

JSTOR
JSTOR contains a moving wall of back issues of 522 journals in full-text format. Generally the last 3-5 years of publication of each title are NOT included in this index. Bush Library subscribes to the Arts and Sciences collections I, II, and IV, the Complement, and the Language and Literature Collection.

This service provides full-text access to articles in news, business, legal research, medicine and reference. This service is especially useful to students looking for full-text of foreign newspapers. Access to full-text of the Minneapolis Star Tribune is available from 1991-present. Linguistics and Language Behavior Abstracts CSA Illumina
This database covers all aspects of the study of language including phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax and semantics. It may be especially useful to ESL students and those studying a foreign language. Select this index from among the choices on the screen. Articles are indexed from 1973-present.

Designed specifically for public libraries, this multidisciplinary database provides full text for more than 2,050 general reference publications with full text information dating as far back as 1975. Covering virtually every subject area of general interest, MasterFILE Premier also includes more than 350 full text reference books, 84,074 biographies, 86,132 primary source documents, and an Image Collection of 107,135 photos, maps and flags.

Media Review Digest FirstSearch
Available both on and off campus with a username and password through the FirstSearch interface. This index contains citations to reviews of educational and entertainment media from over 200 review sources. It is updated quarterly and covers the period 1989 to present.

MLA International Bibliography Plus Modern Language Association - Infotrac
This database is from the Modern Language Association and is useful for students of English, and Languages and Literature. It contains over 1.5 million citations to materials in books, essay collections, working papers, proceedings, dissertations, and bibliographies. More than 4000 of these citations are for journals or series. Materials covered range in date from 1963 to the present. Access is available to off campus users through the proxy server.
MN Magazine Index
Produced by the Minneapolis Public Library, this resource indexes material from nine local (Minnesota) magazines. They include: City Pages, Hennepin History, Minneapolis and St. Paul Skyway News, Mpls. St. Paul Magazine, Minnesota History, Minnesota Monthly, Minnesota Law and Politics, Ramsey County History and Twin Cities Reader. It is available both on and off campus.

This index provides selective subjects and bibliographic access to periodicals, books, hearings, reports, gray literature, government publications, Internet resources and other publications. Includes the previous publications: PAIS Bulletin (1976-1990), PAIS Foreign Language Index (1972-1990), and PAIS International in Print (1991- ) and Directory of Periodicals/Publishers (1991). An Archive is also available for searching. It covers 1915-1976.

Available both on and off campus with a username and password through the FirstSearch interface. This index provides access to individual papers presented at conferences worldwide. A major research aid covering every congress, symposium, exposition,
workshop, and meeting added to The British Library Document Supply Centre's (BLDSC) vast proceedings collection since October 1993. Most papers can be obtained through our Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service. Ask at the Reference Desk for assistance.
Philosopher's Index
The Philosopher's Index provides indexing and abstracts from books and journals of philosophy and related fields. It covers the areas of ethics, aesthetics, epistemology, logic, and metaphysics as well as material on the philosophy of disciplines, such as law, religion, science, history, and education.
Access is limited to a single user at a time. Please use the log-off button in the program when exiting.
Proceedings FirstSearch
Available both on and off campus with a username and password through the FirstSearch interface. This index provides tables of contents of papers presented at conferences worldwide. Each record contains a list of the papers presented at each conference. Like its companion, PapersFirst, ProceedingsFirst provides access to The British Library Document Supply Centre's vast collection of conference proceedings.
Professional Collection This index of professional reading materials contains journals and magazines of interest to teachers and educators.
ProQuest Newsstand Complete This database indexes over 350 full-text state, national and international newspapers. Includes the Minneapolis Star Tribune full-text from 1986 to present, as well as the Wall Street Journal (Eastern edition) 1984-current, and the New York Times East Coast Late Edition, 1999-current.
Project Muse
This database indexes full-text articles in 220 journals which are published by 37 scholarly publishers. They cover the disciplines of literature and criticism, history, the visual and performing arts, cultural studies, education, political science, gender studies, economics, and many others. Access is available to off campus users through the proxy server.
PsycARTICLES CSA Illumina
PsycARTICLES is a database of full-text articles from journals published by the American Psychological Association, the APA Educational Publishing Foundation, the Canadian Psychological Association, and Hogrefe & Huber. The database includes all material from the print journals with the exception of

PsycINFO CSA Illumina
This index covers the years (1887 - present). Use this database to find information on psychology, pharmacology, physiology, linguistics, anthropology, law, and social work. Access is available to off campus users through the proxy server.

The National Library of Medicine's database of citations to articles in the medical
literature. A tutorial for this database is available to users.

Regional Business News EBSCO This database provides comprehensive full text coverage for regional business publications. Regional Business News incorporates coverage of 75 business journals, newspapers and newswires from all metropolitan and rural areas within the United States.

Royal Society of Chemistry Journal Index
An index to the journals published by the Royal Society of Chemistry (London). Bush Library users have online access to the full-text of the RSC journals we own in print, covering 1997 to present. These are: Perkin Transactions 1, Dalton Transactions, Chemical Communication. RSC also makes available to all users the full-text of all their journals from the dates 1997-1999. Access is available to off campus users through the proxy server.

Science Direct Web Editions
Science Direct Web Editions allows any user to search all the titles indexed in this product but links to full-text for only 9 titles which Bush Library owns in print. The full-text provided only covers the most recent 12 months of these 9 titles. Some very selected free full-text content to non-subscribed journals is also included. The Article Linker service, available in most of our other indexes is not activated in this index.
SIRS Researcher FirstSearch
Available both on and off campus with a username and password through the FirstSearch interface. This index is perfect for school and public library researchers, SIRS is a general
database containing thousands of full-text articles exploring social, scientific, historic, economic, political, and global issues. Articles are carefully selected from domestic and international newspapers, magazines, journals, and government publications. Brief summaries accompany all articles added to the database since 1994.

Available both on and off campus. The current 7 day archive is on the newspaper's web site. Older materials are found in the NewsLibrary archive.
