Autism Spectrum Disorders Certificate
Certified Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) teachers help learners with ASD become active participants in society. The combined coursework in this certificate will lead to a greater understanding of the need for collaboration between schools, the community, and the families of learners with ASD to support students' overall education plans.
Learn more about how to make this transition, available to teachers who hold a current full-time Minnesota teaching license in
a special education field and have experience providing specialized
instruction to students with Autism Spectrum Disorders, served under an
Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Program overview
Trained teachers working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorders bring hope to families and children as they work to fully develop a student’s education potential.
Curriculum is directly aligned with the areas of competence recommended for educators working with ASD learners. Individuals with licensure in special education or related services are eligible for this unique program.
CERTIFICATE COMPLETION
If you believe you have completed all of the requirements of the Autism Spectrum Disorders certificate, please contact gcs@hamline.edu to request your printed certificate. Your transcript will be evaluated and your accounts checked for holds. We cannot issue certificates to people with financial holds on their accounts. Certificates are processed monthly and you can expect to receive it within four to six weeks after your request. In your request, please provide the following information: name as you would like it printed on the certificate, student ID, month and year of completion, and the mailing address where you like the certificate sent. Congratulations on your hard work!

SPED 7096 ASD: Teaching Strategies Learners with ASD (2 credits)
SPED 7293 ASD: Asperger Syndrome (1 credit)

Arrangements can be made to have courses taught at school or district sites. Courses do not need to be taken in order but it is helpful to begin with SPED 7091: Introduction & Overview.
