The Apakabar database consists of over 175,000 postings in English and
Indonesian (see A brief history of the Apakabar list.)
This archive can be viewed directly by the dates of the postings.
Index of Articles by Year
To read the postings chronologically, click on the box of the year. Then
underneath parent directory, click on the number of the month. Then
click on
the date. All the messages posted on this date will appear on the screen
and can be opened one by one. Consider focusing in on postings
surrounding important news events between October 1990 and February 2002.
Some postings are in Indonesian, others in English. Usually the language
of the postings is apparent from the
title, but not always. Often the title also reflects the category of the
posting -- such as -L (opinion and analysis, mostly in Indonesian),
news, views, doc(ument)s, issues, or region (e.g.
Timor, Sumatra, etc). The title sometimes includes the author's name or
the acronym of the news source from which the message came
(e.g., SMH for Sydney Morning Herald, JKTP for the Jakarta Post ...)
Search the titles by key word
The search engine allows you to search the titles for a particular
word or by key word.
- For example, if you would like to find all postings which have the word
Soeharto in the title, enter that word as the search
string.
- If you would like to search for postings which have the word
Soeharto in the title, and were posted in May 1998, enter the search phrase Soeharto AND May AND 1998 Note
that the word AND is capitalized.
- If you would like to search for postings which have the word
Soeharto or the word Suharto in the
title, enter the search phrase Soeharto OR Suharto
Once again, note that the word OR is capitalized.
The full text of the messages cannot be searched at this time.
