Atta is believed to have been at the controls of Flight 11, first plane to
slam into the World Trade Center, the FBI says. Officials say Atta is
emerging as a central figure in the investigation. He attended the Technical
University in Hamburg, Germany, with two other suspected hijackers before
moving to the United States and receiving flight training in Florida in
2000. Investigators say they have uncovered evidence that Atta met with
Islamic extremists in Spain, conferred with an Iraqi intelligence agent and
- after re-entering the United States despite being on an immigration "watch
list" - inquired about crop dusters in Florida. On the day of the attacks,
authorities say he flew from Portland, Maine, to Boston, where he boarded
the flight on which he died.
2. Waleed M. Alshehri
Identified by the Justice Department as a possible Saudi national. Dates of
birth used: Sept. 13, 1974; Jan. 1, 1976; March 3, 1976; July 8, 1977; Dec.
20, 1978; May 11, 1979; Nov. 5, 1979. Possible residences: Hollywood,
Orlando and Daytona Beach, Fla. Believed to be a pilot.
U.S. officials told NBC News that Waleed Alshehri held multiple false
passports. The Arab News, reports that Alshehri was a 21-year-old Saudi and
the brother of fellow hijack suspect Wail Alshehri. The news service quoted
the brothers' father as saying they traveled to the city of Medina in
December to seek help from religious officials for unspecified
"psychological problems" afflicting Wail Alshehri and never returned or
contacted the family again. Earlier reports that the Alshehris were the sons
of Ahmed Alshehri, a senior Saudi diplomat, have been discounted.
3. Wail M. Alshehri
The Justice Department provided no nationality for Alshehri, but said that
he used a date of birth of Sept. 1, 1968. Possible residences: Hollywood,
Fla.; Newton, Mass. Believed to be a pilot.
The Arab News, reports that Alshehri, 25, and his brother, Waleed , are
Saudis. The news service quoted the brothers' father as saying they traveled
to the city of Medina in December to seek help from religious officials for
unspecified "psychological problems" afflicting Wail Alshehri and never
returned or contacted the family again. Earlier reports that the Alshehris
were the sons of Ahmed Alshehri, a senior Saudi diplomat, have been
discounted.
4. Satam M.A. Al Suqami
Described by the Justice Department as a possible Saudi national. Date of
birth used: June 28, 1976; Last known address: United Arab Emirates.
Investigators have linked Al Suqami to Raed Hijazi, a former Boston cab
driver on trial for plot to kill Americans and other tourists in Jordan on
Jan. 1, 2000, according to the New York Times. Al Suqami, fellow hijacking
suspect Ahmed Alghamdi and Hijazi, all of whom lived in the Boston area,
shared a relationship with Nabil al-Marabh, whom investigators believe is an
operative of Saudi dissident Osama bin Laden, the Times said, quoting
unidentified U.S. officials.

The Justice Department identified Alomari as a possible Saudi national.
Dates of birth used: Dec. 24, 1972 and May 28, 1979. Possible residence:

Saudi authorities say the real Alomari, who had his passport and other
papers stolen in 1996 when he was a student in Denver, is an electrical
engineer who is alive and well in Saudi Arabia. The suspected hijacker is
known to have used false IDs, including a Virginia driver's license he
fraudulently obtained just over a month before the attack, according to U.S.
authorities.

flight training in Florida with another suspected hijacker, Mohamed Atta.
Prior to coming to the United States, he was a student at Technical
University in Hamburg along with Atta and a third suspected hijacker, Ziad
Jarrahi. At this time, Al-Shehhi is believed to have had "personal contact"
with Mamoun Darkazanli, the owner of a Hamburg, Germany, import-export
company that is "an important part of (Osama) bin Laden's financial
network," a senior U.S. official told NBC News.

The Arabic newspaper Al Watan reported that Alghamdi, 20, was a Saudi from
Baha Province who left the country in early 2000 for Chechnya. The graduate
from a religious high school last spoke to his family four months before the
attacks and asked his parents to forgive him and pray for him, the Arab News

sent to banks suggests he may have been identified erroneously. Next to his
name on the list is a notation that reads "Alive," the AP said. Government
officials told Newsweek that the man identified as Almihdhar was placed on a
"watch list" after being photographed meeting with two men described by U.S.
law enforcement officials as bin Laden operatives, in Malaysia in early
2000. Despite being on the list, the man known to agents as Almihdhar was
able to enter the United States twice - shortly after the Malaysia meeting

The Justice Department listed Alhamzi as a possible Saudi national who may
have lived recently in Fort Lee, N.J., or Wayne, N.J. It listed no age for
Alhamzi.

Cairo, Egypt, three years ago, the Washington Post reported.

tourists in Jordan on Jan. 1, 2000, according to The New York Times.
Alghamdi, Al Suqami and Hijazi also shared a relationship with Nabil
al-Marabh, a known operative of Saudi dissident Osama bin Laden whom
authorities are seeking, the Times said, quoting unidentified U.S.
officials. The Arab newspaper Al Sharq al-Awsat reported that Alghamdi may
