June 09, 2000 - 01:39
JAKARTA (JP): The South Jakarta District Court sentenced on
Thursday defendant Robertus Riantiarno alias Nano, the chief editor of
weekly magazine Matra to five months in jail for publishing pictures
which violated norms of decency.
The sentence was probated to eight months.
"By publishing the pictures, the defendant has violated Article
282 of the Law on Criminal Code," said presiding judge T.H.S Pardede
during the hearing at the district court.
The 50-year-old Nano, also a well-known stage director, was
brought to court August last year after the magazine, declared itself
a magazine for men and lifestyle, published on its cover two hot
pictures of popular actresses Sarah Azhari and Inneke Koesherawati.
The pictures of Sarah and Inneke appeared on the monthly magazine
in June and July editions last year.
Todung Mulya Lubis, the defendant's lawyer, said his client would
appeal for a lighter sentence after the hearing.(asa)
