    Admitted Students for Fall 2016

    Congratulations--you’ve been admitted to Hamline! Here’s where you’ll find everything you need to know about being a Piper, from applying for financial aid or housing, to confirming your enrollment, signing up for orientation, and registering for classes. If you have questions that aren't addressed here, be sure to contact your admission counselor. We are happy to help answer all your questions and are eager to welcome you to Hamline!

    Admitted students are welcome to join the Hamline Class of 2020 Facebook Page to learn more about Hamline and begin meeting new Pipers. (Maybe you'll meet your future roommate!)

    Financial Aid 

    Your financial aid package from Hamline University may consist of merit scholarships, talent scholarships, and need-based grants, loans, or work options.

    •   Merit Scholarships are based on your admission application.
    •   Talent Scholarships are available in some academic areas--application deadlines are January 15, 2016. 
    •  Need-based grants, loans, or work options are based on financial need and are determined by the FAFSA. Approximately 40% of our students receive other federal or state grants--even more may be eligible for other grants from Hamline. Regardless of financial need, students should at least be eligible for loans and work options at Hamline. We recommend completing the 2016-2017 FAFSA in January or February 2016. Our priority deadline for the FAFSA is March 15, 2016.
    • While scholarship notifications may arrive earlier in the year, grants, loans, and work options are not finalized until after the FAFSA is filed. As a result, completed financial aid packages, along with 2016-2017 cost information, will begin to be mailed to students in March 2016.

    Submit Your Deposit

     Submit your Deposit to confirm your enrollment at Hamline. The $400 deposit may be mailed to our office, submitted in-person, or paid online using Piperline. This payment credits toward your first semester tuition and is NOT a separate fee. If you want to submit your deposit online through Piperline, please use the Hamline ID number and temporary PIN that have been sent to you previously. If you have misplaced your login information, contact your admission counselor at 651-523-2207 or admission@hamline.edu.

    Student Housing

      Housing information is emailed to all deposited students around April 1. The email will include information outlining our roommate matching and housing application process. Once you receive the information, feel free to begin the process. July 15, 2016 is the due date for selecting a roommate, but be sure not to wait until the last minute! Housing assignments and roommate contact information will be available August 1, 2016.

    Visit Campus

    Come visit us! Consider attending one of our engaging on-campus events to help you make the best college decision for you. If that doesn't work, set up a personalized visit just for you! Many students schedule campus visits in order to tour the campus or connect further with admission staff, faculty, or coaches.     Piper Preview

    Piper Preview is the first of two mandatory orientation programs for first-year students. After students submit their deposit to Hamline, they will receive an email which indicates they are able to register for this orientation. First-year students may attend any ONE of the six Piper Preview sessions held in June or July. Please note that Piper Preview is a two-day orientation. Day 1 is a 10am-5pm day and students are required to stay on campus overnight. Day 2 runs 9:30am-noon and involves the actual registration for fall courses. 

    Parents are welcome to attend Piper Preview. We have a complete schedule of sessions and information for parents. The parent program is a great way to gain more information on resources for you and your students, meet other parents, and connect with the Hamline Community! We are unable to provide on-campus housing for parents, but parents that would like to stay in the area may find this list of nearby hotels useful.

    Piper Preview orientation dates and schedules are available here. Students admitted into the summer Institute for Academic Success program are encouraged to attend Piper Preview VI.

    Piper Passages 

    Piper Passages is the second mandatory orientation program for all new students at Hamline. Piper Passages will start the Sunday of Labor day weekend, just before the semester begins. Come meet current student leaders, develop new friendships, learn your way around campus, meet with a faculty advisor, and get your questions answered. Watch for email communications as we approach the fall semester.

    Flying in?

    Here are some popular transportation options used by current students:

    • Metro Transit--The Twin Cities has an excellent public transit system. From the airport, you can take the blue line light rail to the Downtown East stop. Transfer to the eastboungreen line train toward St. Paul and depart at the Snelling Avenue Stop, just blocks from campus. At Snelling and University, take the northbound Metro Bus Route 84 to Hamline's campus on Hewitt Avenue.
    • Take a cab--there is a centralized taxi kiosk at the MSP airport. ATMs are available at the airport, but taxis are typically required to take credit cards.

    Summer Checklist!


    All students are required to provide proof of immunization. Incoming students must submit immunization records through Piperline. Please note that required immunizations include: measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), tetanus and diphtheria. A tetanus and diphtheria vaccination must be current within the last ten years. If immunization requirements are not met a registration hold will be placed on the student's account. Please contact the student's admission counselor with any questions.

    Health Insurance at Hamline

    All Hamline University undergraduate students are required to carry some form of sickness and accident insurance coverage, either your own or the Hamline-sponsored student insurance plan. If you are a domestic student, and you have your own health insurance coverage, you may waive the Hamline-sponsored student health insurance plan at the time of registration by entering your insurance company and policy number into Piperline. If you do not waive this coverage, you will be automatically enrolled in (and billed for) the policy sponsored by Hamline University. If you have waived coverage through the Hamline-sponsored health insurance plan, but wish to "opt-in" at a later time, you should contact Student Accounts at 651-523-3000.

    Student Loans

    Apply for your loans by July 15 if you plan to utilize a loan to help finance your education. Please visit the Student Loan Programs website for help.
