Scientists unite in Robbins Science Center, home of Hamline's chemistry and physics departments as well as some biology labs. It is here where students learn the principles of thermodynamics, cell biology, and chem-energetics. Students gain immediate access to the center's labs and equipment, a hands-on advantage the gives them a leg-up when applying for graduate school.
Chemistry at Hamline
Chemistry is often considered the “central science” as it connects the study of physics and mathematics, earth and environmental sciences, and biology and medicine. Chemists are on the forefront of new discoveries in medicine, geology, psychology, biology, and the environment, among many areas of humanity. The field is ever expanding and future employment prospects for chemistry majors are bright.
Physics at Hamline
Lasers, the internet, and space travel all exist thanks to physics. Physics aims to understand the laws of nature and the relationship between energy and matter. A broad field, it encompasses mathematics, engineering, communications, biology, and electronics and provides students with critical thinking and problem solving skills. Physics majors are thus equipped for a wide variety of careers and graduate work from teaching to aerospace engineering.
