29. The Creative Writing Programs Office
The Creative Writing Programs Office offers conference rooms and faculty and staff offices for this nationally recognized leader in the field of graduate writing and liberal studies education.
The school offers the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies, the Master of Fine Arts in Writing, and the Master of Fine Arts in Writing for Children and Young Adults, along with a BFA program in Creative Writing. Established in 1994, Hamline's MFA program was the first MFA degree in creative writing in Minnesota.
In all programs faculty are dedicated to enriching the individual and collective lives of their students. Classes, which average fourteen students, meet at convenient evening hours and occasionally on weekends. The Creative Writing Programs Office enjoys a solid reputation among students for quality and creativity, and for its exceptional ability to educate non-traditional adult learners. Students’ total learning experience is the central focus.

The BFA in creative writing at Hamline offers a coherent curriculum in creative writing and literature specifically designed for writing students. Students also benefit from Hamline’s emphasis on the liberal arts, taking a broad range of courses from other disciplines that help to inform their writing.
Water-Stone Review
Hamline’s Creative Writing Programs publishes the award-winning, national literary magazine, Water-Stone Review, which publishes work in all genres (from both emerging and well-known writers), essays, reviews, and writers’ interviews.
