Blogs are the diaries of today, they also serve as magazines, columns, reference guides, memoirs, newspapers, serial novels, and any and all of the above. There’s a blog for everyone and every interest, so it’s no wonder there are 42 million of them on the Internet right now. 

Thorson is a writer, blogger, heart attack survivor, and heart-health advocate and speaker. She received her BA degree in English and women’s studies from Hamline University in 1996. A former marketing communications professional, her most important title now is “Mom.”

Warren ’39 and Teen Young ’39 Johnson lived full, vibrant lives until health issues impeded their independence.

Herron, a mother and grandmother, lives in New Brighton, Minnesota, with her husband, Tom. She received her BS degree in home economics education from Concordia College in Moorhead, and taught at Fridley Senior High School and Irondale High School. She is a member of the Loft Literary Center in Minneapolis and is active in P.E.O., a philanthropic, educational organization for women.

Talking about the Tough Times: Right Words, Wrong Words, Words of Hope

How are you? How many times do we answer this question with words that mask how we are really doing? How many times do we search for words to describe how we are doing only to come up short?
Especially when faced with life’s big challenges (depression, grief, illness, broken relationships), finding the right words to talk with family, friends, religious leaders—even God—is often hard to do.

Thompson has taught religion at Hamline since 1996, offering courses on ancient Christianity to contemporary African American religious thought. She received a master's degree in arts and religion from Yale University and a PhD in theology from Vanderbilt University. Her most recent book, Hoping for More: Having Cancer, Talking Faith, and Accepting Grace, was featured in the fall edition of the Hamline Magazine. She also currently blogs about cancer, faith, and grace, at www.hopingformore.com.

On March 2, 2013 the Minnesota Historical Society will commemorate the sesquicentennial of the Civil War with the opening of a major exhibition at the Minnesota History Center entitled Minnesota and the Civil War. 

Adam Scher curates the Society’s three-dimensional artifact collections, including nearly 1,000 objects associated with the Civil War. Scher formerly served as Vice President of Operations for the American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar in Richmond, Virginia. Candy Hart has been the university’s archivist since the fall of 2001. Previous to that, she worked at the Minnesota Historical Society for 14 years.

The Associations of Hamline Alumni invite you to join other alumni and friends for lunch and conversation at one of our Arizona Alumni Gatherings.

This year's Senior Party, brought to y by HUSC, is on May 10th, and we are going to a TWINS GAME! Game starts at 7:10pm at Target Field.

 
Those graduating this May are welcome to sign up at the Recreation Desk in Walker Fieldhouse. In order TO SIGN UP, provide your email and bring your student ID to confirm name and Senior status.

 
The FIRST 50 PEOPLE to sign up will get there tickets for FREE. After the first 50 tickets have been claimed, tickets will be $11 per ticket. Limit one ticket per person. Tickets on sale now through May 9th.

 
Your Twins ticket will get you admissions to the park and $10 to spend on whatever they would like at the Stadium.
TRANSPORTATION WILL BE PROVIDED. The bus will pick up attendees outside Bush Student Center at 6:00 pm and return to Bush Student Center following the game.

Join Hamline Law alumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends for a fun day of camaraderie at the beautiful Prestwick golf course in Woodbury, Minn., for the 17th Annual Law Alumni Golf Tournament on Tuesday, June 4, 2013.

Come to the opening of an art exhibit based on the theme "Picture the World Better Together" on April 26th. We will be displaying photographs of people and their written answers to one of three questions. These questions include:
-What do you believe in?
-How do you picture the world better together and how can we get there?
-Who inspires you?
Come for food, discussion, and though provoking photography. How would you answer the questions?
The display will be up for a month, so if you can't make it to the opening check it out later!

This conference collaboration provides the opportunity to learn and discuss with historians, elders, activists, legal scholars and allies to discuss the impact of the the 1805 Treaty and historic events and legacies the 1862 Dakota-US war.

This is a two day event. It takes place on May 5 from 2:00PM to 9:00PM and continues May 6 from 8:30AM to 4:00PM.

Keynote speakers include Dr. Chris Mato Nunpa (retired professor, elder and activist, Yellow Medicine Community), Dr. Neil McKay (Dakota language instructor, University of MN, Spirit Lake Country), and Dr. Waziyatawin (scholar, activist, Yellow Medicine Community).

Treaty of 1805 panel members include Dr. Howard Vogel (retired Hamline School of Law), Barbara Ann Nimis (attorney) and Larry Leventhal (attorney).

Elders Panel includes Elitta (Cavender) Gouge (Yellow Medicine community), Sandy (Columbus) Geshick (Redwood Community), and Faith Bad Moccasin (Crow Creek Reservation). Allies Panel includes Mary Beth Faimon (retired professor), Barbara Ann Nimis (attorney), Denise Breton (Living Justice Press), and Kathryn Kelley (Metro State). Welcome by Kevin Jensvold (Chairman Upper Sioux Community), Provost Eric Jensen, Ashlee Jallen (HIPS) and Susan Allen (House Representative).
