Women's Hockey Loses OT Heartbreaker

Goal SMU

Hamline's women's hockey team struck first but St. Mary's countered quickly and delivered a knockout blow in overtime. The Pipers gave up a power play 2:08 into the extra session in a 2-1 loss at Ridder Arena Friday night.

Kendra Krause (11 in picture) got things headed in the right direction with a goal 2:47 into the second period. But SMU came back to tie the game 23 seconds later.

And it stayed that way until the Cardinals won a faceoff after a penalty and delivered a long shot into the net to push the Pipers to 1-3 on the season, 0-1 in the MIAC.

In between, it was a game with a lot of chances on both ends. Hamline had 35 shots on goal, 14 in the third period alone. St. Mary's tested goalie Sarah Schneekloth with 31 shots, 14 in the middle period.

The teams will re-convene in Winona on Saturday, November 10 at 2:00 p.m. You can keep up with a live stats feed of the game by clicking here.
