Coaches are fond of saying to their teams, "There is no tomorrow." But truer words have never been spoken when it comes to the very competitive bunch that will break out for a fall run on Saturday, November 10. The Pipers will join teams from the MIAC, The Iowa Athletic Conference, the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference and Nebraska Wesleyan at the Division III Central Regional race on the campus of St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.
Many will try but only a few will be chosen to advance to the NCAA Meet on November 17 in Terre Haute, Ind.
256 men have been registered to run in the 8K race that starts at 11:00 a.m. CST. 280 women are slated to start the 4K race at noon.
The top two finishing teams get automatic berths in the NCAA meet. The next three finishing teams are eligible for at-large berths that will be decided on Sunday, November 11.
Even if a team get an automatic berth or an invite, there is room for individuals to make the field. The top seven individual runners from teams that did not qualify for the meet also get a ticket to Indiana. So, if the Pipers don't qualify on the front end, they have a chance on the back side to have individual runners make the field.
