Molly Jacobs Named MIAC Women's Soccer AOW

She has been the bottom line of defense all season for the Hamline women's soccer team. Molly Jacobs has been quietly effective all season in goal, allowing just seven goals in 10 games played as the Pipers sprinted off to a 7-2-1 start. Last week, she was perfect, recording consecutive 1-0 shutouts as Hamline defeated St. Olaf and St. Thomas for the first time since 2007. The double blanking earned the Portland, Ore. native a place in the Piper record books with six solo shutouts in a season. She also has seven overall victories, which ties a school mark.

And it also earned her the honor of being named the MIAC Women's Soccer Athlete Of The Week. It is the second week in a row a HU player wont he award. Last week, Aileen Scheibner was honored for a four-goal effort.

Jacobs' six shutouts has lowered her overall goals-against average to .0689, which ranks 61st in all of Division III. She leads the MIAC in shutouts and in victories with seven. (She was in the net for the first 81 minutes of a shared shutout against Northwestern a couple of weeks ago. As a team, Hamline's seven shutouts ranks in a tie for 11th in Division III.)

All of the above numbers are terrific but the number that may interest Jacobs and her teammates the most is 2. That the number of points the Pipers are out of fourth place in the MIAC -- the final playoff spot. Hamline takes a 2-2-1 MIAC mark, good for seven points (three for a win and one for a tie) as it hits the midway point of its conference slate Wednesday, October 3 at Gustavus Adolphus (4-5, 2-3 MIAC). Game time in St. Peter is 4:00 p.m.

The Pipers return to Paterson Field Saturday, October 6 to host St. Mary's in a 1:00 p.m. affair.
