Women's Tennis Team Competes In Annual ITA Event

It doesn't count in the league standings. But it can be considered the first step towards the 2013 women's tennis season. Hamline's women's tennis team has several members in action this weekend at the 2012 USTA/ITA Midwest Regional Championships being held at Gustavus Adolphus in St. Peter. Emily Butler, Cassie Rammage, Elizabeth Hughes, Shamara Duwearachi, Rachael Barnes and Leanne Manthe were involved in singles matches in different brackets. In addition, the doubles teams of Butler-Rammage and Barnes-Manthe also competed.

The event started Friday, September 21 and ran through Sunday, September 23.

Rammage, a first year player from Delano, Minn, won her first round match, defeating Molly Denney of UW-Stout, 6-3, 6-0. She then lost to Mary Frasetto of UW-Eau Claire in a competitive, 6-4, 6-3 match in a quarterfinal matchup. The other competitors all lost their first round matches.
