Maybe Hamline will have to petition the MIAC to go to playing four times on a weekend. The Pipers certainly have the hang of success working that way. For the third weekend in a row, HU won all four matches in a tournament. On Saturday, they took their eighth three set win of the season, running over Crown and Wis-Stout by identical 3-0 scores.
The Pipers, who were just 9-19 last season, are now 12-1 overall on the season.
In the opening match of the day, first year player Katie Ayres topped a balanced attack with nine kills and seven digs. The Pipers claimed a 25-14 opening game win and followed it up with 25-11 and 25-21 decisions. Karley Kilian added six kills as all 15 players on the HU bench saw action. Becka Mozes had 17 assists and Frankie Miller (pictured at right) recorded 13 digs.
Eight days ago, the Blue Devils gave the Pipers a tough go before falling in five sets. There was no such drama this time. The Pipers survived a 25-22 cliffhanger and then got better as the day went on, claiming 25-16 and 25-13 wins to finish off the sweep. Frankie Miller turned attacker with 11 kills (along with six more digs) while Sam Greeney-Hamlin contributed nine. Sammie Miller dished out 20 assists with Mozes dealing a dozen of her own. Lynsey Reimer had a terrific day on the backside with 17 digs while Jamie Rubbelke was close behind with 16.
The Pipers' 12 overall victories currently rank as the most of any MIAC team. They now return to league action next week with a match Wednesday night, September 19, at St. Benedict (11-3, 1-0 MIAC) for a 7:00 p.m. match. On Saturday, September 22, they travel to St. Olaf (4-7, 1-0 MIAC). That match is scheduled for a 1:00 P.M. start.
