It's the equivalent of the Minnesota twins opening the season in Anaheim ... minus the lure of Disneyland. The Hamline soccer teams open the 2012 MIAC schedule Wednesday, September 12 in Moorhead against Concordia. The men go first at 2:00 p.m. and the women follow with a game at 4:00 p.m.

Both teams go into their respective games on unbeaten streaks. The HU women have done more than just win their four starts this season. They have done so without allowing a single goal. Their most recent decision was a 4-0 win last Sunday at Cornell (Iowa). They are facing the team that was the coaches' preseason pick to win the league. The Cobbers currently stand 2-1-1 on the season. The team do have one common opponent. Concordia defeated Wis-River Falls, 2-1, on September 8. In the Pipers' lone home game of the season, they nipped the Falcons, 1-0.
Last year, HU goalie Liz Stock stopped all seven shots sent her way in a scoreless tie that stretched through two overtimes.
The men are unbeaten in their last two games. Playing without two regulars last Saturday, they battled Minnesota-Morris to a scoreless draw, also in two overtimes. Four days earlier, HU broke open a tight game with four second half goals for a 6-1 win over North Central. Those six goals represent Hamline's offensive numbers for the season. But the Piper defense has been impressive, allowing just three goals in four games. Although picked by the coaches for the cellar in the preseason poll. Concordia is off to a 3-2 start after a 2-0 win over Wartburg last Sunday at home. CC defeated the teams' only common foe -- Minnesota-Morris, 4-0, on September 4 at home.
Last year, Brian Stout scored 14 minutes into the game only to see CC tie matters in the second half. It ended in a 1-1 draw.
