Henning Header Lifts Pipers, 1-0

At 5-3, Corinne Henning is never the tallest player on field during a soccer game. But she knows where to go when the game is on the line. Henning maneuvered herself into perfect position and headed a Keanna Mienert corner kick with 16:58 to play in regulation to life Hamline's women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Wisconsin-River Falls at Paterson Field.

The Pipers are 2-0 on the season while the Falcons fell to 1-2.

Molly Jacobs kept her record spotless in goal, recording three saves for her second straight shutout.

Hamline held the edge in play most of the game, outshooting the Falcons, 13-7, overall. But they couldn't dent WRF goalie Rebecca Kramer until Henning headed the ball just over the goalie through a pile of players for her first tally as a Piper. WRF pressed hard but the Pipers defended well in front of Jacobs and started their 2012 season where they left off last year on their home turf. A year ago, HU lost just once in nine games at Paterson en route to tying a school record for wins with a 10-5-3 mark.

The Pipers will head out on the road this weekend for a pair of games in Iowa.

They will play Central on Saturday, September 8 at 10:30 a.m. On Sunday, they move on to Cornell for a 1:00 p.m. game. Then, it is on to Moorhead to face Concordia in the MIAC opener September 12 at 4:00 p.m.
