Men's Soccer Puts Up Stiff Fight Against No. 25 Pacific Lutheran

Feil

Hamline men's soccer coach Alex Morawiecki wanted to see his team compete in their season opener against No. 25 Pacific Lutheran. The Pipers did just that, chasing the Lutes long and hard around Paterson Field before giving up a goal with 13:45 to play in a 1-0 loss that served as the season opener for both teams.

HU goalie Eric Feil stood tall, recording six saves, including five in a chaotic second half that saw the Lutes kick up the pressure considerably.

Hamline started slow but began to press PLU as the first half went on. Sam Studer had the only shot on goal but the overall shot total (each team had three) reflected the even disposition of the first 45 minutes. In the second half, however, PLU, a NCAA playoff team last year, became more assertive, forcing the play that led to the game's only marker.

Both teams will play again Saturday at Paterson. Hamline will face Whitworth, who battled Augsburg to a 0-0 tie in two overtimes earlier in the day, at 3:30 p.m. Pacific Lutheran will meet the Auggies at 1:00 p.m.
