Mitambo Earns Double Mention On All-MIAC Men's Tennis Team

During the season, Bernard Mitambo made many men's tennis foes see double. So it seems only appropriate that he was named to two All-MIAC teams as well. The senior from Cameroon was picked by the league's coaches as a representative on the singles and doubles teams. HU junior David Croonquist was also named to the singles team while senior Andrew Lutz landed on the doubles side.

Mitambo, who attended DeLaSalle High School, was the Pipers' top singles scorer all season, finishing with a 14-3 won-loss mark, going 6-1 in No. 2 singles position and a perfect 7-0 at No. 3. He was head coach Jon Henning's all-around player in doubles, pairing up with four different partners during the 2012 season. He came up 5-3 No. 1 doubles slot, playing once with Croonquist and going 4-3 when slotted with Lutz.

Lutz also moved around on the doubles court, scoring a 9-8 overall record while playing with four partners. The Pine City, Minn. senior wasn't too shabby in singles, either, going 9-8 on the year, rotating between the Nos. 3,4,and 5 slots.

Croonquist, who started the season rated No. 16 in the ITA singles, fought off injuries to go 7-6 in the No. 1 singles slot. He finished strong, winning his last three matches in a row.

Mitambo and Croonquist also earned a Men's Tennis Athlete Of The Week honor during the season. In late March, Mitambo won his honor for an outstanding performance during the Pipers' spring trip to Florida. There, he won all five of his matches to help the Pipers to a 4-1 week. Two weeks later, Croonquist earned his award for a terrific singles and a doubles win in the Pipers' close 5-4 loss to St. Olaf.

In addition to Mitambo, Lutz and Croonquist, senior Brendan Fitzpatrick was named to the conference's All-Sportsmanship team.
