Piper Bats Silenced In Double Loss At SJU

The Piper baseball team ran into some excellent pitching Wednesday in Collegeville. The result was a doubleheader loss to St. John's. Mark Radmacher hit a two-run homer in a 4-2 loss in the first game. An error led to three early unearned runs in a 6-1 setback in Game 2.

In Game 1, HU was down 3-0 when Radmacher unloaded his first longball of the season in the fourth inning. The Pipers managed just one more hit the rest of the way. Matt Eickman gave up just four hits in 4.2 innings but took the loss.

In Game 2, an error led to three unearned runs in the second inning to put HU in an early hole. In the fifth, Dan Ellefson singled, moved to second on Cam Smith's single and scored on a throwing error to cut the SJU lead to 3-1. The Johnnies scored three in the sixth to put the game away.

Hamline fell to 11-18 overall, 2-8 in the MIAC. The Pipers play their next four games at Midway Stadium, starting with Gustavus Adolphus' visit Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
