If the baseball Pipers are going to make a return trip to the MIAC playoffs, they need to do what they did last year at this time: start stringing some wins together. The first chance to do that comes up Saturday, April 14 when they travel down Snelling Ave. for a doubleheader at Macalester. The first game is set for 1:00 p.m. Fans who can't make it to Mac can follow all the action by clickinghere.
The Scots, who tied for first place last year, are off to a good start with a 6-2 league mark (16-11 overall) after a pair of one-run wins over Bethel last Tuesday. They are led on offense by Robert Williams, who leads the league with a .443 batting average. The Pipers' 5-3 win at Carleton in the second game of the doubleheader was their first in six tries. But they followed that one up with a come-from-behind 6-4 win over North Central on Thursday at Midway Stadium. (Tyler Johnson continued his hot hitting ways with a three-run homer in the last of the eighth inning provided the winning runs. Johnson has nine hits in his last 17 at-bats.)
HU is 10-15 overall.
