Pipers End Softball Losing Streak At Concordia

Katie Koren and Jenna Dushaw banged out three hits each to lead Hamline to a 6-2 victory over Concordia in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday in Moorhead. The win was the Pipers' first MIAC triumph of the season and snapped a 16-game losing streak. The Cobbers rallied from a 2-0 deficit to score a seventh inning run for a 3-2 decision in the nightcap.

HU broke open a scoreless tie with five fourth inning runs. Dushaw opened the inning with a single and eventually scored on a Lauren Turitto single.  Four more hits followed with Cecily Abbadessa capping the outburst with a two-RBI single.  The Cobbers scored twice in the bottom of the inning but back-to-back doubles by Dushaw and Laura Randall put the game away. Bri Vela threw a complete game six-hitter, walking none and recording four strikeouts to gain the victory.

Game 2 started well. Lauren Clouston led off the second inning with a walk, moved up two bases on a pair of groundouts and scored on an error to make it 1-0. In the third, Brittany Bredemus doubled and eventually scored on a wild pitch. But the Pipers managed just four hits for the game and CC pushed across runs in the fourth, fifth and seventh innings for the win.

Hamline is 2-22 overall, 1-9 in the MIAC. They will host Macalester in a doubleheader Saturday at Meredith Field. The first game will begin at 1:00 p.m.
