Hamline's men's tennis team came within a backhand or two of upsetting St. Olaf April 3. One of the main architects of the near-upset -- HU junior David Croonquist -- has been named MIAC Men's Tennis Athlete Of The Week. Croonquist earned a hard-fought win at No. 1 singles, defeating the Oles' John Wight in three sets. He also teamed with Sam Teitelbaum for a rugged 8-6 victory in No. 2 doubles. It was the first time the duo had played together in a match. The two wins helped Croonquist - who was regionally ranked in the Top 16 in
both singles and doubles this fall - improve to 5-5 overall and 1-1 in MIAC play
in both the solo standings and as part of a tandem.
Croonquist is the second Piper to win the Men's AOW mention this spring. Bernard Mitambo won the honor two weeks ago. Hamline is currently 5-8 overall. The Pipers return to conference play April 17 at St. John's.
