Hamline's men's tennis team came within a game of knocking St. Thomas out of the ranks of unbeaten MIAC teams. A 10-8 loss in No.1 singles spelled the difference in a tight 5-4 loss to the powerful Tommies Saturday night at the Baseline Center at the U of Minnesota. David Croonquist put up a stiff fight against UST's top gun, Brian McCarthy. After splitting 6-2 sets, Croonquist lost the final set, 10-8. The Pipers won two singles and two of the three doubles matches. Bernard Mitambo pushes his season mark to 3-2 with a straight set win at No. 3 singles. Andrew Lutz was pushed a little harder but prevailed in a three-set match at No. 5 singles.
Mitambo and Sam Teitelbaum rolled to a solid 8-3 win in No. 2 doubles with the tandem of Andrew Lutz and Brendan FitzPatrick holding firm for an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles.
The Pipers are 1-4 overall (0-2 MIAC). They head south next weekend for a series of matches in Florida,
