King Named National Hitter Of The Week

Andy King, who batted .750 last week, has been named the first NCAA Division III Hitter of The Week for 2012.A panel of NCBWA (National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association) members chose the  HU senior leftfielder, who currently has a seven-game hitting streak for the Pipers, who stand 4-5 overall after a 3-2, 16-inning loss last night to the University of Minnesota.

King was honored for his efforts last week as Hamline split a doubleheader with Wisconsin-Stout and swept Edgewood at the Metrodome. The right-handed  batting senior from Fort Myers, Fla. scored five runs and knocked as he had four singles, a double, two triples and a two home runs for a 1.667 slugging mark. He had a pair of five-RBI games. He singled in his first at-bat last night against the Gophers to push his hitting streak to seven games. Andy is currently hitting .438 (14-for-32) with a .906 Slugging Percentage.
