Women Warm Up For MIAC Indoor Meet With Four First Place Finishes

It's an excellent time of year to post Personal Bests. The Hamline's women's team had 11 of them and won four events in their last rehearsal for the MIAC Indoor Meet this weekend. And they did it at the site where they will be competing for conference honors.

participating in an unscored meet Friday at Macalester, Kaitlyn Frenchick, Maria Theisen,  Becky Culp and Shawny Kramer won their respective events. Several other Pipers turned in their best clocked efforts of the season as well. Frenhick claimed honors in the 600 Meter Run with a time of 1:38.34. It is also the top time recorded by a MIAC 600 Meter runner this year. Dani Vitali  had a season best 1:44.47 to finish fourth, just ahead of teammates Andrea Haus and Emily Brown-Phillips. Theisen tore through in a season best 5:15.14 to win by nearly four seconds, setting a MAC Fieldhouse record. Culp, whose 43-2 1/4 effort in the Shot Put is the best among MIAC competitors this winter, also set a Mac Fieldhourse record with her winning 42-7 heave. Two others Pipers -- Erin Urbanowicz, who was third with 38.04.25 and Jerri Koltveit, who was fourth at 38-0.425, had season best performances as well. Kramer destroyed the Mac Fieldhouse record by nearly a foot when she the 20 lb. weight 52-10.75. (

Other PBs went to Carolyne Bocovich (3rd, 300 meter, 11;10.08), Hope Hertz (4th, 60 meter Hurdles, 10.36), the Piper 4 x 200 Relay team (2nd, 1:48.24), and  Keelie Sorensen (6th. Long Jump, 15-07.50). Georgia Korsah had two PBs (7th, Long Jump, 15-06.25 and 4th, Triple Jump, 33-00.50).

The Pipers head into this weekend's MIAC meet hoping to move up from last year when they tied for third place with 88 points.
