Men's Track Impresses At St. Olaf Meet

Hamline's men's Track and Field team recorded seven wins and five second place finishes -- including a sweep of the field events -- at the St. Olaf Invitational Saturday. No scores were kept in the meet, which included teams from Minnesota-Duluth, St. Thomas, Macalester, Carleton and the host school.

Shaise Schuette won the Pole Vault with a 4.68m effort. Teammate Mark Volker finished second (4.38m). Travis Laktzke claimed honors in the Long Jump (6.46m) with Christian Kibler doing the same in the Triple Jump (12.61m).

Hamline also went 1-2 in the Shot Put and Weight Throw. Joe Morelli heaved the shot 15.37m to edge out Brennan McKeag (15.13m). McKeag then set a new school record when threw the Weight 18.84m to beat out Andrew Schlicting (17.46m). It also ranks as the ninth best throw this year in Division III.

The Piper runners were also in excellent form. Chris Reisdorfer dazzled them in the Mile, winning in a time of 4:24.49. The 4 x 400 Relay team was also victorious. Two HU sprinters came close, too. D.J. Weil was second in the 200 Meter Dash (Christian Willman was third) and Arthur Moore was runner-up in the 60 Meter Hurdles (8.77).

The Pipers will compete in one more meet (February 24 at Macalester) prior to the conference indoor meet March 1-3.
