It was another Top Ten sort of day for HU freshman Hannah Hawker. One day after posting the third best 100 Backstroke time in school history, she entered the Top Ten again with a 2:14.72 clocking in the 200 Back that moved her into eighth place (right behind assistant coach Renee Punyko) on the all-time list Saturday at the U of M Aquatic Center. Unfortunately, she finished in 18th place at the MIAC Championships and did not qualify for the final.
However her fellow alphabet sharer -- diver Ingrid Haugan - fared a little better. Haugan finished 8th in the 1-Meter Competition with a score of 339.65.
It was the highlight of the day for HU. The 400 Free Medley team of Hawker, Erin Weslander, Michelle Vargason and Rachel Ronnander came in 10th in the 400 Free in a time of 3:53.8. In earlier action, Weslander finished 22nd in the 200 Fly. Vargason was 24th in the 200 Breast and Ronnander was 32nd in the 100 Free.
On the men's side, Ben Smidt came the closest to making it to the second round, coming in 20th in the 200 Fly. Jerry Daniels was 28th in the 200 Breast.
The Piper women finished in 10th place with 83 points, a big step up from last year when they finished with 18 points. The men were eighth with 74 points.
