Men's Hockey Gains Playoff Spot With Concordia Loss

Thanks to a resounding win by St. Mary's, Hamline's men's hockey team will get an opportunity to defend its MIAC postseason title. The Pipers got their wish when the Cardinals defeated Concordia, 5-1, in Moorhead Friday night. The Pipers' 7-8-1 league mark gives them 15 points and fifth place in the conference, the final playoff spot.

Even though Concordia defeated St. Mary's 7-0 on Saturday and also finished with 15 points, Hamline earned the playoff position because of tiebreaker criteria.

Accordingly, Hamline will play next Thursday, Feb. 23 at St. Olaf. Game time is 7:00 p.m.  The Oles tied Gustavus, 3-3, Saturday to finish with a 11-8-6 overall mark, 7-6-3 in the MIAC.

The Pipers split the two-game season series with the Oles last November. Hamline took a 4-3 decision from St. Olaf at Vadnais Heights after losing 4-0 the night before in Northfield. The winner of the Feb. 23 game travels to St. Thomas Saturday, Feb. 25. The Tommies have clinched first place and drew a first round bye.
