A hot goalie can carry a team a long way. Hamline senior Beau Christian has been blazing in recent weeks. In his last six games, he has allowed just six goals, lowering his goals-against by almost a full goal to 2.83. He was at his stingy best last weekend, giving up just two goals to Concordia all weekend. For those efforts, he has been named MIAC Men's Hockey Athlete Of The Week.
Christian thwarted all 34 shots sent his way Friday in a tense 1-0 win over the Cobbers. it was his eighth career shutout and 50th career victory, easily the most of any current MIAC goalie and one of the top numbers nationally. When he allowed a goal in the second period on Saturday, it ended his scoreless string at a remarkable 183:58 (more than three full games worth)..
Christian and his teammates now have to sit and wait to see if they get a chance to defend their MIAC Playoff Title. The Pipers' regular season is over. Their 7-8-1 MIAC mark is currently good for fifth place, the last playoff position. However, both Concordia and Bethel have games remaining and, thus, a shot at passing them. HU needs St. Mary's to take two points from Concordia and St. John's to take two points from the Royals to get Hamline into the postseason.
It is the fourth time in Christan's career he has won this honor. He is the second Piper to be so noted this season. Nick Widing was the first winner of the award in November.
