21 years ago, Hamline honored Ziggy Kauls with membership in the school's Athletic Hall Of Fame. The 1963 grad got there for his exploits in basketball and track. For the past 45 years, he has been on the bench as the head boys' basketball coach at Mounds View, guiding the Mustangs a dozen state tournament appearances and a pair of state titles en route to 728 victories, third most in state history. Kauls has decided to retire at the end of the current season. He was profiled in the January 13 edition of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
