Women Rebound Well But Fall To Pacific, 53-39

Je'Naya Brown scored 12 points and Jordan Sammons added 11 but Hamline's women dropped a 53-39 decision to Pacific (Ore.) in the first round of the Daytona Beach Shootout Monday afternoon. Brown hit all three of her third-point tries but the rest of her teammates could only manage one long-distance effort as HU fell to 2-5 overall. The Boxers are now 7-1.

Veronika Jakubovie, making her first start of the season at the post, snared nine rebounds as part of a season high 37-rebound effort. (Sammons was next with eight.) Brown had five of her team's 11 steals. But HU  went scoreless in the first 5:48 of the game and made only five first half baskets and trailed 21-13 at the intermission.

They crept within five points with 13 minutes to play before the Boxers, who average only giving up 50 points a game, pulled away for good.

Hamline will have little time to enjoy the beaches. They face Lakeland (Wis.) Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. CST.
