It's the season of presents and Hamline's men's bb team gave coach Nelson Whitmore a big one Tuesday night. 16 different players got in the scoring column as Hamline pulled away in the second half and recorded its largest margin of victory in a men's game since 1984 with a 88-48 triumph over CalTech. Mike Campbell scored 16 points and had 10 rebounds in 19 minutes of playing time as Hamline finished with its widest margin at the finish of a game since a 99-42 win over Concordia-St. Paul, then a NAIA school.
Campbell's double-double was the first this season for a Piper player.
In addition to Campbell's hot hand, Dior Ford and Charlie Choiniere registered 13 points apiece. The Pipers also picked up 51 rebounds, their most in many years.
HU only led, 34-24, at halftime. But they exploded for a 31-8 run in the first 10 minutes of the second half and were never headed again. Hamline shot 58 per cent in the second half to even their overall won-loss record at 4-4. They also played suffocating defense, holding the Beavers to just 29.5 per cent from the field for the game. CalTech, which defeated Macalester on Monday night, fell to 4-3.
Hamline returns to action December 31 with a non-conference game at Chapman.
